What Giants offered for Cam Ward in blockbuster trade that wasn’t

The Giants landed star Penn State pᴀss rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft — but that doesn’t mean they didn’t try to take a quarterback.

Big Blue attempted to trade up with the тιтans in an attempt to take Miami quarterback Cam Ward, ESPN reported right as the draft started Thursday night.

According to Adam Schefter, the Giants offered both their 2025 and 2026 first-round picks — among others — to try to get Ward as their next franchise quarterback.

Miami quarterback Cam Ward puts on a hat after being chosen by the Tennessee тιтans with the first overall pick during the first round of the NFL football draft, Thursday, April 24, 2025, in Green Bay, Wis. AP

But the тιтans pᴀssed on the offer and instead drafted Ward, who was viewed in the months leading into the draft as the top pick and quarterback.

Tennessee said earlier in the week that it was settled on picking No. 1 overall and would not be trading down from the spot.

After two years at Washington State, Ward developed into an All-America first team pick at Miami as he threw for 4,313 with an NCAA-leading 39 touchdowns with a gaudy 172.2 pᴀsser rating.

The Giants, without a quarterback — at least initially in the draft — will have Russell Wilson, Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito in their QB room.

They added Carter, viewed by many draft experts as a generational pᴀss rusher, to bolster their defense for 2025 and beyond.

Carter led the NCAA with 24 tackles for loss last season to go along with 12 sacks for a Penn State team that reached the College Football Playoff semifinal.
