Jameson Williams posts cryptic messages as Lions trade speculation swirls

Much like the rest of Lions fans, it seems Jameson Williams is also digesting recent speculation he could be on the trading block.

In the wake of a new report Monday from Sports Illustrated’s Albert Beer, who claimed that some in NFL circles suspect Williams could be moved, the 24-year-old wideout turned to social media to cryptically speak his mind.

“Loyalty b4 any n everything,” one post on Williams’ Instagram Story read, as captured by the Woodward Sports Network, while another stated: “Stay sucka free.”

Eagle-eyed fans also called attention to Williams not following the Lions on Instagram, however, there are conflicting accounts as to whether he ever followed the team.

Williams is coming off an explosive season in Detroit, where he posted career-high numbers in receptions (58), yardage (1,001) and touchdowns (seven) in 15 regular-season games.

He is entering the final year of his rookie contract, with speculation mounting as to whether the Lions will pick up his fifth-year option.

Lions general manager Brad Holmes signaled at the NFL league meeting in Palm Beach last month that things appeared to be trending in the right direction.

“Look, it’s heading that way that we are most likely going to be doing that,” Holmes said, according to ESPN. “He was a tremendous player for us last year.”

The Lions finished the regular season at 15-2 and were the NFC’s No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Detroit’s postseason run lasted just one game as the Commanders thwarted the NFC’s top seed in the Divisional Round, 45-31.

Holmes said Williams is “still scratching the surface” of his playmaking abilities.

“I do think he’s got more in him as well, so I just think it just makes sense for us to do what we can to keep him around,” he said.

Breer noted the incoming decision on Williams’ fifth-year option in Monday’s report, and how the receiver position is a possible option the Lions could consider in this year’s draft.

The 2025 NFL Draft begins Thursday in Green Bay. The Lions hold the No. 28 pick in the first round.
