Jerry Jones teases ‘substantive’ Cowboys trades ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters Tuesday that he might have something big up his sleeve.

Jones spoke with the media ahead of Thursday’s NFL draft and said he was working on “pretty substantive trades,” though he didn’t offer up any specifics.

“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft. Two pretty substantive trades. Been working on today,” Jones said, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

The Cowboys do have a propensity for making trades during the draft, with Dallas making 72 dating back to 1989 when Jones took over the team, though it’s unclear whether the potential trades that Jones has been working on would happen before, after or during the draft.

Dallas has already been active this offseason, making two trades, acquiring linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. from the тιтans and cornerback Kaiir Elam from the Bills.

Jones and the Cowboys have more than $37 million in cap space and were somewhat quiet in free agency, signing running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and defensive tackle Solomon Thomas.

One trade that isn’t expected to happen is a deal for the Cowboys to land Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton.

NFL Network’s Jane Slater threw cold water on that idea after the notion had been circling on social media, calling it “fake news.”

The Cowboys are picking 12th in this year’s draft that is being held in Green Bay, and during Tuesday’s press conference, Jones did comment on how impressed he was with the depth of this year’s class, according to ESPN, adding that Dallas is looking for an instant impact player.
