Philadelphia Eagles' mistake when drafting Jason Kelce in 2011 resurfaces ahead of next week's big event

A typo on Jason Kelce’s name from 2011 has returned to haunt the Philadelphia Eagles ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft.

In the latest episode of the New Heights podcast, Jason and younger brother Travis circled back to the Eagles’ X (then Twitter) post from when the center was drafted out of Cincinnati.

Travis read out the post, which said ‘The #Eagles select C Jason Kelsey from Cincinnati with the 191st pick!’ the younger Kelce brother then immediately pointed out the misspelling.

‘Completely botched your name,’ the Kansas City тιԍнт end said with a chuckle. ‘And now you’re the greatest player to ever play in an Eagles uniform.’

Shortly after the clip went out, the reigning Super Bowl champions posted a graphic of the tweet a picture of Kelce from early in his career, and wrote, ‘*Kelce. 6 days until we’re double checking spelling for the NFL Draft.’

Responding to his brother’s remarks, Jason disagreed with Travis calling him the greatest Eagle in history. Jason also noted how he had to earn everything throughout his football career.

“They didn’t know how to spell my name back then but they know how to spell it now” 🔥🔥🔥 pic.twitter.com/GMaby1TCZE

‘I firmly like that most of my career had to be earned,’ he said. ‘It is crazy how overrated I am.’

‘I’m not even close to the best Eagle in my time with the Eagles,’ Jason added after Travis laughed off his response. ‘Fletcher Cox, Jason Peters, Lane Johnson. There were so many people who have meant more to wins and losses and have been better players.

‘I could not block Fletcher Cox one one-on-one. It’s a legitimate thing,’ Jason continued.

‘The credit that I’ve gotten has been because of the work that’s been put in. They didn’t know how to spell my name then but they know how to spell it now.’

Kelce retired in 2023 after 13 years with the Birds, a Super Bowl тιтle, six First-team All-Pro nods, and seven Pro Bowl selections.
