Chiefs Super Bowl winner retires to focus on rap career after arrest for 'strangling pregnant girlfriend'

Super Bowl winner Kadarius Toney is the latest athlete to ditch sports for music.

The former first-round draft pick who performs as ‘Yung Joka’ announced his retirement on social media, where he was quick to remind everyone that his first love is music.

‘Goofies on the net,’ Toney began in the esoteric post. ‘I’m retiring… Love da attention for my music tho. ‘it’s been a pᴀssion.’

Toney’s pᴀssion has not been football for some time. The 26-year-old University of Florida product won two Super Bowls with the Chiefs, but became a non-factor in Kansas City by 2023. The team declined his fifth-year option last May, and while he was later signed by the Cleveland Browns, he was ultimately released in December and has gone unsigned ever since.

Along the way Toney has been criticized for dropped pᴀsses and a crucial 2023 offsides penalty that negated a would-be go-ahead touchdown in a Chiefs loss to the rival Buffalo Bills.

Then, in January, Toney was accused of strangling a woman who was later revealed to be pregnant. He was later arrested on one count of aggravated ᴀssault-strangulation and one count of obstructing/harᴀssing 911 calls.

TMZ has since published 911 audio from the woman – allegedly Toney’s girlfriend – in which she claimed to be heavily pregnant during the January 14 attack in Douglasville, Georgia.

While the woman said she wasn’t feeling any contractions and declined receiving medical attention, she said she had fled to her neighbor’s house barefoot to remove herself from the home she and Toney shared.

Officers say she had red marks on her neck and petechial hemorrhaging in her eyes.

Toney was also accused of preventing her from calling 911.

There was a warrant issued for Toney’s arrest on January 15, and his bond was set at $25,000 for each of his two charges when he was arrested the following month.

Police documents reviewed by DailyMail.com alleged that Toney squeezed a woman’s throat ‘with enough force to cause her to be unable to breath.’

He has not spoken publicly about the case and any record of an attorney for Toney could not be found.

A first-round pick by the New York Giants in 2021, Toney showed flashes of his ability with Big Blue, once racking up up 189 receiving yards in a single game.

However, he struggled with injuries throughout his time in New York and was traded to Kansas City in 2022, where he ultimately won two rings.
