2-Year-Old Ailahni Sanchez Martinez Dies After Unattended Pickup Truck Rolls Into Family Taco Stand in California

A heartbreaking accident in Woodland, California, has left a family mourning the loss of 2-year-old Ailahni Sanchez Martinez, whose life was tragically cut short after an unattended pickup truck rolled forward and struck her near her family’s taco stand.

According to authorities, the incident occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Saturday near a 76 Gas Station on West Street, where Ailahni’s family operated a taco stand. The toddler was sitting with her family, enjoying a meal, when the tragedy unfolded.

Investigators say the owner of a Dodge pickup truck had parked near the gas pumps and left the vehicle running while entering the convenience store. Authorities allege that the man’s 3-year-old child remained inside the truck without adult supervision.

During the investigation, officers determined that the child was able to unbuckle from a car seat, climb into the driver’s seat, and somehow shift the vehicle from park into drive. The truck then rolled forward, striking Ailahni before anyone could stop it.

Ailahni’s father, Sandro Sanchez, reportedly saw the truck moving toward his daughter and immediately ran toward the vehicle in a desperate attempt to prevent the collision. He reached the driver’s door and tried to stop the truck by applying the brake, but investigators say it was already too late.

Her mother, Rosa Martinez, also witnessed the heartbreaking incident and rushed toward her daughter, but was unable to prevent the fatal impact.

Family members described Ailahni as a joyful little girl who loved dancing and filled every room with happiness. She was only one month away from celebrating her third birthday, a milestone her family had eagerly anticipated.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and provided ᴀssistance, while police secured the area and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

According to Sergeant Richard Towle, investigators found the 3-year-old child seated in the driver’s seat when officers arrived. The pickup truck remained in drive, supporting investigators’ initial findings regarding how the vehicle began moving.

Authorities have not publicly identified the owner of the truck because of legal restrictions related to the investigation. As of the latest update, no criminal charges have been announced, and officials say the case remains under active investigation while detectives continue reviewing all evidence.
