Steelers haven’t heard any updates from Aaron Rodgers as his free agency drags on

What will Aaron Rodgers do?

That’s what the Steelers are likely asking as the 41-year-old quarterback still has not made a public decision about his free agency.

And, on Wednesday, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini told Colin Cowherd on FS1 that Rodgers has not given Pittsburgh any recent updates on where his head might be at as he remains unsigned.

Rodgers’ options have dwindled as the Jets moved on from the quarterback, the Giants signed both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston and the Vikings likely ready to move on with young signal-caller J.J. McCarthy.

According to Sports Illustrated, Rodgers even pitched the Vikings on signing a one-year deal to make a Super Bowl run, though they decided to stick with McCarthy, who missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing two knee surgeries.

With those teams having moved on, the Steelers under head coach Mike Tomlin have been viewed as a logical fit for Rodgers.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported earlier in April that the Steelers remain “optimistic” that they can bring in Rodgers.

CBS Sports reporter Aditi Kinkhabwala reported that Rodgers “is not going to play just for the sake of playing” this upcoming season as he wants to play with a team that’s a legitimate contender.

Pittsburgh, with Russell Wilson and Justin Fields under center, finished last season with a 10-7 record and made the playoffs, losing in the wild-card round to the rival Ravens.

In his second and final season with the Jets, Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns as the team finished a disappointing 5-12, one year removed from his season-ending Achilles surgery.
