Shedeur Sanders has a champion in Kay Adams.
The “Up & Adams” host went to bat for the Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Tuesday, stating there is “no reason” for Sanders to be chastised over his appearance on her program earlier this month following a visit with the Steelers.
“He was at the airport, he had his hood on. He was being so low-key, he just left the Pittsburgh facility and he was around tons of people trying not to be seen, to be respectful of me, not the ideal situation he would have wanted for an interview,” Adams said on Tuesday’s installment.
“And the amount of crap, and just like, people with their comments about his hood, and that is why I love him, because there was no reason for him to get that and he was getting it.”
Sanders, considered one of the most polarizing figures of this year’s class, kept a low profile at Pittsburgh’s airport during an April 10 appearance on Adams’ show, where he spoke glowingly about the Steelers.
“I enjoyed my time in Pittsburgh, I think I connected well with all the coaches, and it was real fun,” said Sanders, who sported a pullover onscreen.
Adams, who taped Tuesday’s show alongside NFL draft analyst and Colorado alum Joel Klatt, ripped the knee-jerk reactions about Sanders.
“I don’t think any other player that could have shown up that way, nobody cared about the context, everyone just made a judgment like, ‘Take your hood off, that’s disrespectful,’ or ‘He’s not speaking loudly.’ He took the time at an airport, three seconds out of his huge day with [Pittsburgh head coach Mike] Tomlin and the Steelers to talk about it. In that moment, everyone is so critical, and I hate everyone for that, and so, I champion him,” Adams said.
Sanders, the son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, is a wild card entering next week’s NFL draft as analysts and experts are divided over where he’ll land.
In a column published Monday by Sports Illustrated, Albert Breer wrote he was “having a really hard time finding coaches or scouts who believe Sanders is a first-round talent.”
Miami quarterback Cam Ward is anticipated to go first overall to the тιтans, but after that, it’s anybody’s guess as to where the other quarterbacks will land.
The Giants, who hold pick No. 3, have scheduled a private workout with Sanders for Thursday.
The Saints, owners of pick No. 9, now face questions about the health of starting quarterback Derek Carr and could be a possible landing spot for Sanders.
The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft begins next Thursday in Green Bay.
