Deion Sanders has his eyes peeled on the newest team that could be in the sweepstakes for his son in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders responded with the eyes emoji to a Friday post on X from ESPN’s Louis Riddick which read, “That 9th pick gonna be all kinds of interesting.”
The Saints, who hold the ninth pick in this year’s draft, could select a quarterback now that Derek Carr is dealing with an apparent shoulder injury, according to NFL Network.
Carr’s injury puts his availability for this upcoming season up in the air, with him possibly having to undergo surgery.
The 34-year-old played in just 10 games last season, missing time due to oblique and hand injuries.
New Orleans would be in need of a quarterback if Carr misses a significant amount of time next season, and Shedeur Sanders could potentially be available for them to select if he is not taken sooner.
As one of the top quarterback prospects ahead of the draft, Shedeur has captivated the attention of numerous teams that could potentially draft him.
The 23-year-old also recently opened up about how some NFL teams he has conducted visits with have not appreciated his honesty.
“When I go visit these coaches and when I go to all these different franchises, I ask them truly what I think and how I feel,” Shedeur said on NFL Network’s “The Insiders” on Thursday.
“Some get offended, some like it, some don’t. Make some people uncomfortable, some people invite that. They know what type of person and what type of player they’re gonna get out of me, so I just have to make sure, you know, what type of culture or what type of dynamic I’m going to have with them also.”
The 2024 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year has also recently drawn criticism for his tendency of patting the ball, with one NFC executive describing him as a “fringe starter.”
“Fringe starter who makes good decisions and does some good things but won’t get you over the top,” the NFC executive told ESPN.
He’ll likely be taken after Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who is viewed as the No. 1 QB in this class.
