Allen Lazard takes huge Jets pay cut with trade still possible

Allen Lazard is not going anywhere … for now.

The Jets and Lazard agreed on a revised contract that has Lazard taking an $8.5 million pay cut, according to Over The Cap.

Lazard had been scheduled to make $11 million in 2025, which made him a likely cut for the Jets. The revised deal cuts the guaranteed portion of his salary to $1.75 million. His base salary is $2.25 million.

He will become a free agent in 2026.

At the NFL’s annual meeting last week, Jets general manager Darren Mougey said the “hope” was that Lazard would remain on the team under a revised deal.

Lazard, 29, signed a four-year, $44 million deal with the Jets in 2023 as the team began to woo Aaron Rodgers, his former quarterback with the Packers.

With Rodgers now gone, the Jets were expected to purge all of the “Friends of Aaron” they brought in to make him happy.

The Jets gave Lazard’s agent permission to find a trade partner in March, but there were no takers.

The contract revision makes a trade of Lazard more realistic.

If Rodgers signs with the Steelers, the Jets could try to move Lazard there. If not, his new salary makes it easier to keep him as a third or fourth receiver.

Lazard bounced back after a difficult 2023 and had a decent 2024 season for the Jets before getting injured.

He had 37 catches for 530 yards and six touchdowns in 12 games.

It was just difficult to justify that kind of production for $11 million. At $2 million, he could be a bargain.

Lazard’s cap number will drop from $13.2 million to $4.6 million.
