NBA champion Dirk Nowitzki was caught on camera re-enacting Ja Morant’s controversial gun and grenade celebrations alongside sports reporter Taylor Rooks.
Grizzlies guard Morant has landed himself in H๏τ water after repeatedly using a gun finger celebration on the court.
Earlier this week, Morant courted further controversy by toasting a three-pointer against Charlotte by pretending to launch a grenade into the crowd.
On Thursday night, Mavericks legend Nowitzki returned to Dallas alongside Rooks, a broadcaster who covers the NBA for the likes of TNT Sports.
They were watching the Lakers-Mavericks game but cameras caught them laughing as they imitated Morant.
At one point, Rooks took a selfie with Nowitzki. The journalist performed Morant’s finger gun celebration while the German feigned to throw a grenade.

The NBA last week took action against Morant after he ignored a warning from the league. He was hit with a $75,000 fine for the gesture, according to ESPN.
Morant has twice been suspended for brandishing real firearms, and was warned over his conduct by league officials earlier this season.
He has previously served two suspensions totaling 33 games for gunplay, including one incident when he brandished a pistol at a strip club. The guard also mimed pointing a gun at Anthony Davis earlier this season.
On March 3, 2023, Morant flashed a gun on an Instagram Live video in SH๏τgun Willie’s, a strip club in Glendale, Colorado, following a loss to the Denver Nuggets.
The move sparked severe backlash, with the NBA handing down an eight-game suspension. Morant also checked himself into a private counseling facility in Colorado.
Just weeks later, however, Morant was captured waving a firearm in a car on friend Davonte Pack’s Instagram Live. The league gave him a 25-game suspension.
Nowitzki, meanwhile, was a first-round draft pick back in 1998. He spent nearly two decades with the Mavericks, winning an NBA тιтle in 2011. He was also named the NBA’s MVP in 2007.
