Am 15. Februar durfte ich für die Koryphäe der Textilarchäologie, Karina Grömer, modeln. Natürlich habe ich diese Gelegenheit auch gleich genutzt für einige Fragen zu diesem Thema.
Ich fᴀsste dabei das älteste – und nobelste – Ensemble aus.

On the 15th of February I was allowed to model for the expert in prehistoric textiles archaeology, Karina Grömer. Naturally I used the opportunity to get some of my questions of this subject answered. 
I got the oldest – and noblest – ensemble.

In der Frühbronzezeit (vor 1600 v. Chr.) wurde in Franzhausen (Niederösterreich) eine Frau mit reicher Ausstattung im Gräberfeld bestattet. Man vermutet, dᴀss sie vielleicht eine Priesterin oder andere bedeutende Persönlichkeit war. Besonders interessant ist ein Kopfschmuck aus Bronze, der auf einer Filzkappe mit Bronzespiralen und -reif auflag. Dazu Zopfringe, große Armringe, der erste Nachweis gestreiften Stoffes und aufgenähter Bronze- und Muschelschmuck.
Zudem braucht dieses Ensemble definitiv das pᴀssende erhabene Auftreten dafür.

In the Early Bronze Age (before 1600 BC) a woman in rich outfit was buried in the graveyard in Franzhausen (Austria). She’s ᴀssumed to have been a priestress or other outstanding person. Of special interest is her bronze headdress that lay on a felt cap with bronze spirals and circlet. In addition braid spirals, great arm rings, the first evidence of striped fabric and sewed-on bronze and shell decorations.
Also this ensemble definitely needs the fitting sublime appearence.

Zwei Frauen und zwei Männer führten Kleidung aus der Bronze- und Eisenzeit vor, um einen Vortrag von K. Grömer über prähistorische Kleidung und ihre Aussagen/Bedeutung zu illustrieren. Dieser war Teil der Kick-off-Veranstaltung zum Projekt Iron Age Danube im Landesmuseum Joanneum Graz in Verbindung mit anderen Ländern südöstlich von Österreich, durch das die Eisenzeit-Forschung in diesen Gebieten verbessert und vernetzt werden soll.

Two women and two men showed clothing from the Bronze and Iron Age to illustrate a lecture by K. Grömer about prehistoric clothes and their statement/meanings. This was part of the kick-off event of the project Iron Age Danube in the Landesmuseum Joanneum in Graz in connection with other countries south-east of Austria. Its goal is to improve and link the Iron Age research of these regions. 

“Unser” Vortrag kam sehr gut an. Wir wurden zahlreich fotografiert, sogar Eure Exzellenz(!), die kroatische Botschafterin, war begeistert. Auch am Gruppenfoto sollten wir nicht fehlen.
Interessant war, dᴀss der Kopfbügel, der lose am Scheitel aufliegt, bisher bei jedem mehr schlecht als recht balanciert ist. Bisher hätten Models Probleme gehabt, ihn am Kopf zu behalten. Ich konnte damit treppauf, treppab laufen, tanzen, mich bücken und sogar beim demonstrativen Fallenlᴀssen fiel er nur bei sehr tiefem Beugen vom Kopf. Meine Vermutung ist, dᴀss ich einen ähnlicheren Kopf wie das Original habe, da ich eine kleinere Statur und einen kleineren Kopfumfang als die meisten modernen Menschen habe.

“Our” lecture was very well received. We were pH๏τographed a lot, even Her excellency(!), the Croatian ambᴀssador, was excited. On the group pH๏τo we also shouldn’t be missed. 
Interesting was that the headdress which lies loosely on the vertex was balanced with negligible success by my pre-wearers. The models before me should have had trouble to keep it on their heads. I could go up and down the stairs, dance, stoop and even at the domonstrative letting it fall off the head it refused until really deep stooping. My suspicion is that I have a head similar to the original for I have a smaller figure and a smaller head circumference than most modern people.

Am 31. Mai wird es die nächste Gelegenheit geben, die Stücke im getragenen Zustand zu sehen, und zwar auf der Ausgrabung in Strettweg! Ansonsten sind einige der Kleidungsstücke im NHM Wien ausgestellt.

On 31st of May there’s the next opportunity to see the things in action again at the excavation in Strettweg! Otherwise some of the garments are presented in the NHM Vienna.
