Controversial ex-NFL star Antonio Brown makes surprising gesture for dad jailed for leaving his kids at McDonalds

Former NFL wide receiver Antonio Brown is championing the cause of a stranger in a different state who’s story appears to be straight out of a Will Smith movie.

In Augusta, Georgia back on March 22, 24-year-old Chris Louis was reportedly arrested after leaving three children unattended at a McDonald’s.

According to the Augusta Press, Louis left the children there in order to attend a job interview. But a concerned customer called authorities after noticing that the children – aged ten, six, and one – were left alone.

Authorities allegedly found the children unattended – with witnesses saying that Louis arrived with them around 4:30 that afternoon. When Louis returned just after 6:15, he was detained.

The outlet says that Louis told authorities that he had walked to the restaurant with his children from their apartment and did not want to have them walk back while he was at the interview. Louis added that he didn’t have a vehicle.

Louis was then reportedly arrested and was taken into custody. The children were taken back by their mother.

DailyMail.com has reached out to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office for confirmation.

Somehow, news of this reached Brown – the former Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver – who set up a GoFundMe for Louis.

The тιтle of the fundraiser is ‘Pursuit of Happiness – Chris Louis’ a reference to the 2006 movie ‘The Pursuit of Happyness’ about the life of Chris Gardner, a homeless man (played by Will Smith) who spent a year in San Francisco unhoused before finding a job.

‘Story caught me by surprise,’ Brown wrote in his description of the fundraiser. ‘A dad just trying to find a way to make money for his family.

‘I know he shouldn’t just leave his kids, but some people don’t have the means for babysitting, etc. This GoFundMe is set in place to help this man.’

Brown added that he spoke with the company in order to get Louis the funds raised. He also said that he’s yet to speak with Louis, ‘but I hope to do so soon.’

At the time of publication, just short of $25,000 have been raised of a $50,000 goal.

Brown’s $1,084 is the top donation – followed by $1,000 which appear to have been donated by ESPN and Amazon Prime football color commentator Kirk Herbstreit.
