Aaron Rodgers is trying to develop a rapport with a star receiver — and a potential teammate.
The unsigned QB met met up with Steelers wideout D.K. Metcalf over the weekend to run some routes and have a throwing session at UCLA, per NFL Network’s Mike Garofalo.
Rodgers, 41, has watched as his free agency options have dwindled this offseason, with Pittsburgh one of the precious few spots that would offer him a starting role.
“Rodgers, going through the process, checking all the boxes,” Garofalo said on “Good Morning Football” on Monday.
Rodgers has been working out over the past several weeks as he decides whether to play in 2025.
He previous met with Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who liked the session with Metcalf.
“We had a really productive day,” Tomlin said of the tete-a-tete at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting on Monday. “He’s been in this thing a long time. I’ve been in this thing a long time. But there’s no subsтιтute for intimacy and spending time together and getting to know one another in a non-compeтιтive environment. So, that was really good. But I don’t have any new updates in terms of where the process is. We’ll see where it leads us.”

Rodgers had previously been considering the Giants and Vikings as well as the Steelers, but the Giants settled on Russell Wilson and the Vikings are seemingly all but set to give 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy the keys to the offense.
The Steelers, however, aren’t going to rush a Rodgers decision.
“I’m really comfortable with being unsettled at this time of year, to be quite honest with you. It’s about talent acquisition,” Tomlin said. “We’ve got two main means of acquiring talent — free agency and the draft. We mulтιтask. We do both. Those needs that we fulfill in free agency, we do so there, and when we don’t, we fulfill it in the draft. I just learned over the years that this time of the year, although day to day it could be somewhat uncomfortable, it is a process.”

The Steelers coach already has one new toy in Metcalf, acquired from the Seahawks this offseason, to pair with rising star receiver George Pickens, and adding Rodgers to the mix for 2025 could give him a second.
