Brandon Aiyuk unlikely to be traded by 49ers with $22.85 million bonus coming due

Brandon Aiyuk looks like he will be staying in the Bay Area.

The 49ers are not expected to trade their star wideout on Tuesday — Aiyuk’s unofficial trade ᴅᴇᴀᴅline — when he is owed a $22.85 million bonus if he’s still on the roster, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Once the team pays Aiyuk, any trade talks for the 27-year-old would be called off, and he would be in the scarlet and gold for another season.

No deal is expected to come around by Tuesday, Schefter reported.

Prior to signing a four-year, $120 million extension last year, Aiyuk requested a trade after several unsuccessful attempts to get the extension, as the 49ers were unwilling to have negotiation conversations since May.

He was coming off a 2023 season that saw him record 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.

The former first-round (25th overall) pick of the 2020 NFL Draft eventually signed the deal in August, but the season that followed wasn’t an ideal one for Aiyuk.

After tearing his ACL and MCL in his right knee in October, Aiyuk was sidelined for the remainder of his fifth season with the 49ers.

He finished the year with 25 catches for 374 yards and no touchdowns.

It was one of the first injuries to plague the 49ers’ season that saw them miss the postseason for the first time since 2020 — just a year after making it to the Super Bowl against the Chiefs.

It seems the 49ers have no interest in giving up their new No. 1 receiver after already trading Deebo Samuel to the Commanders in early March, and likely hope to see a third 1,000-plus yard season from Aiyuk.

Aiyuk, who has been with the 49ers from the start of his career, has 294 receptions for 4,305 yards and 25 touchdowns across five seasons.
