Mike Tomlin addresses timeline around Steelers’ ongoing Aaron Rodgers pursuit

The Steelers don’t appear to be in too big of a rush when it comes to Aaron Rodgers.

While Pittsburgh doesn’t have their quarterback situation sorted out, presumably waiting for Rodgers to decide on what he wants to do, the Steelers aren’t rushing the future Hall of Famer to make a decision.

Rodgers has been linked to the Steelers and the speculation only grew stronger after the Giants signed Russell Wilson to a contract last week and the ex-Jet visited Pittsburgh’s facilities on March 21.

But when Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin met with reporters on Sunday in Palm Beach, Florida, for the owners meetings, he had little news on what would come next.

“It’s been reported that he spent a day with us and it was a really good day,” Tomlin said, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazzette.

The Steelers coach was limited in what he was willing to share on Sunday about the potential union with Rodgers, generally stating that the organization was still evaluating the quarterback position and possible fits for the role, ESPN reported.

Pittsburgh is searching for a new quarterback after Wilson and Justin Fields went on the open market, with both of them ending up with a New York team.

Wilson signing with the Giants ended any possibility of Rodgers staying in East Rutherford and Fields joined the Jets to replace the 41-year-old QB who spent his last two years in the NFL with Gang Green.

As for Rodgers, Tomlin indicated that the Steelers weren’t putting any sort of timetable in place in order for him to make a decision.

“Not to my knowledge,” he responded when asked about it, according to The Athletic. “You know, I don’t know that we’ve approached it from a ᴅᴇᴀᴅline perspective. Certainly, as I mentioned, you’d like to have settled circumstances. But, you know, ᴅᴇᴀᴅlines don’t often bring that to a head.”

Tomlin also said that he hadn’t asked Rodgers about his timeline for making a decision when the QB had visited.

The time was spent with the two getting to know one another better and ascertaining what Rodgers is “looking for with his next stop,” Tomlin explained.

NFL Network reported on Thursday that the Steelers and Rodgers had worked out the parameters of a one-year deal.

For all intents and purposes, the ball is in Rodgers’ court, with the Steelers running out of quarterback options.
