Milwaukee Bucks’ star players had reportedly ‘lost faith’ in head coach Adrian Griffin, ultimately leading to his shock firing on Tuesday.

It’s claimed several veterans, including team leader Giannis Antetokounmpo, were no longer on board with coach Griffin’s methods after one half of the NBA season.  

Milwaukee is in second place in the Eastern Conference, firmly in a playoff spot, but now will quickly look to fill its head coach vacancy. 

The unrest at the helm, per Sports Illustrated, had been making the rounds through NBA circles ‘for weeks.’

Griffin was in his first season as Milwaukee’s head coach, being hired in June after five seasons as an ᴀssistant coach for the Toronto Raptors.

Antetokounmpo was allegedly one team veteran who had ‘lost faith’ in Griffin at the helm 

Milwaukee won the NBA championship in 2021 and appears in contention to do so again.

But it’s also claimed Damian Lillard, recruited from the Portland Trail Blazers this offseason, was struggling to adapt to Griffin’s scheme.

Rumors have said longtime NBA head coach Doc Rivers is the Bucks’ preferred choice to replace Griffin. 

The Bucks next game is Wednesday against the Cavaliers, with Joe Prunty being named the interim head coach.  

Milwaukee won its last two games against the Pistons, the NBA’s worst team, but lost by 40 to Cleveland last Wednesday.  

The veteran-laden Bucks appear to have not meshed with their new head coach since Mike Budenholzer was fired.
