Reigning NBA MVP Joel Embiid admitted that he was not completely satisfied after scoring a franchise-high 70 points in the 76ers’ 133-123 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

The 29-year-old appeared on the Men In Blazers podcast Tuesday and claimed his performance on January 22 was not his best, despite the scoreboard suggesting otherwise.

‘The funny thing is after the game, I was actually mad at myself because I thought I could have been better,’ Embiid said. ‘I thought I left so many points on the board, I missed so many easy ones.

‘To be honest I wasn’t pushing enough. Because I think if I was trying to push for it, I could have played more minutes. It was a good thing but I was also mad at myself for leaving out so many easy ones.’

Embiid’s 70-point outing came from making 24-41 or 58 per cent from the field. The Cameroonian big man also sH๏τ one of two three-point attempts while grabbing 18 boards and five ᴀssists.

The previous record in Philadelphia was held by NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain who scored 68 points against the Chicago Bulls in 1967.

Embiid became the ninth player in NBA history to punch in a 70-point-plus performance, a feat that basketball greats Michael Jordan and Larry Bird did not achieve in their storied careers.

He joined an elite group with Chamberlain, Kobe Bryant, David Robinson, Damian Lillard, Donovan Mitchell, David Tompson, Devin Booker and Elgin Baylor.

All-time, Embiid’s performance slotted him in a 12th-place tie with Booker and another one of Chamberlain’s explosive games with the Warriors. Still, Embiid remained adamant about wanting more from himself without spoiling the celebrations.

‘You never wanna be satisfied because you always gotta find that edge that can take you to another level,’ he continued. ‘Obviously it was an amazing night, I’m not going to say it wasn’t, it was great. But I also felt like I could have been better.’

The 76ers are currently third in the Eastern Conference behind the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics.
