Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry and New York Liberty Guard Sabrina Ionescu will officially square off in a three-point challenge in February’s All-Star Weekend.

On Tuesday, it was confirmed that Curry and Ionescu will come up against each other in the the first NBA vs. WNBA three-point shootout during State Farm Saturday on February 17 in Indiana.

According to The Athletic, it has been established that Curry will shoot from the NBA three-point line with NBA-sized balls while Ionescu is required to shoot from and with the WNBA equivalents. However, the Oregon alum insisted on leveling the playing field by shooting from the same distance.

‘I’ll shoot from the NBA line,’ Ionescu wrote on X following the announcement. ‘LETS GET IT!!!!!!!’

The NBA line is 23 feet and nine inches long at the top of the arc while closing in on 22 feet from the basket in the corners. Meanwhile in the WNBA, the top of the arc is 22 feet and 1.75 inches from the hoop with the same corner measurements at 22 feet.

Ionescu first challenged Curry after one-sidedly winning the WNBA three-point contest in July

The idea was first presented when Ionescu scored 37 points in the final round of the three-point contest during the WNBA All-Star weekend in July. After the one-sided win, Ionescu challenged Curry to a shootout for all the marbles.

Although Curry had expressed interest in the showdown before, the flame was rekindled when he mentioned Ionescu while mic’d up before a game against the Sacramento Kings.

‘Do you know who holds the record for most points in a 3-point compeтιтion,’ Curry asked, before Brandin Podziemski correctly said Sabrina [Ionescu].

‘I think I got to bring her out here, like we got to settle this once and for all.’

After the NBA posted the video on X, Ionescu accepted the challenge by reposting with the caption: ”Let’s getttttt it!! See ya at the 3 pt line @StephenCurry30.’

Widely considered the greatest shooter of all time, Curry won the three-point contest in 2015 and 2021. More importantly, the former Davidson Wildcat already holds the all-time record for most three-point field goals made with 3,577 in just 922 games.

Sitting behind him is retired two-time NBA champion Ray Allen who made 2,973 three-pointers in 1,300 appearances.

On the other hand, Ionescu is coming off her best-shooting season. The fourth-year guard made 44.8 per cent of her attempts from distance in 2023. She also broke the WNBA record for threes made in a single season with 128.

Ionescu averaged 17 points, 5.6 rebounds and 5.4 ᴀssists before the Liberty fell to the Las Vegas Aces in the WNBA finals.
