Six sneakers, worn by Michael Jordan for his six NBA Championships, sold for a record-breaking $8million at auction in New York.

‘The Dynasty Collection’ is made up of six individual Air Jordan sneakers. They were worn by Jordan in the clinching game in his NBA Finals victories. 

Sold to a buyer in the room at Sotheby’s on Friday, the shoes set a new world record for game-worn sneakers.

They also became the second most valuable piece of Jordan memorabilia ever sold. 

The 60-year-old’s jersey from game one of the 1998 NBA Finals – the famed ‘Last Dance’ season – still holds the record for any game-worn sports memorabilia.

That sold for $10.1m at Sotheby’s in September 2022. A year later, in April 2023,  MJ’s Air Jordan 13s from game two of the same NBA Finals earned $2.2m at auction.

The basketball icon won half a dozen NBA Championships between 1991 and 1998 with the Chicago Bulls.

He became one of the most famous sportsmen in the world and his parternship with Nike forged one of the most recognizable brands in sports – that has endured long after the end of Jordan’s NBA career. 

The $8m sale has been hailed as another ‘reminder of Michael Jordan’s lasting impact’.

‘Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT. The Dynasty Collection undeniably ranks among the most significant compilations of sports memorabilia in history,’ Brahm Wachter of Sotheby’s said. 

‘(It is) a truly unparalleled moment and milestone in auction history, the sale of these six championship-clinching sneakers will likely never be replicated.’
