🫀💔 19-Year-Old Heart Transplant Patient Faces Frightening Setback as Her Mother Refuses to Leave Her Side

🙏 Now her family is asking for prayers for her lungs, her diaphragm, and the strength to keep fighting.

Janearae, a 19-year-old heart transplant patient, has endured another difficult night following the transplant her family had hoped would finally give her a new beginning.

Her mother, Loretta, recently reached out again asking people not to stop praying for her daughter.

According to Loretta, Janearae’s latest chest X-ray is worse. The side of her lungs that had previously appeared stronger is now showing increased cloudiness, raising concerns among her medical team.

Doctors are also trying to understand what is happening with Janearae’s right diaphragm. They are considering whether it may have been affected during surgery or whether it simply has not begun functioning normally yet.

The concern is particularly significant because Janearae already had a complicated history involving her diaphragm.

Loretta explained that her daughter’s left diaphragm was injured during her very first open-heart surgery as a baby and later had to be surgically secured. Seeing possible problems with the right side now has understandably made this latest setback even more frightening for her family.

Janearae initially had her breathing tube removed after surgery, but she was unable to cough strongly enough to clear the fluid and congestion from her lungs. Doctors ultimately had to intubate her again.

Her nurses are now helping her clear some of the material from her lungs, but the newest X-ray showed that the right lung appears even cloudier.

Her medical team is discussing what could be causing the diaphragm problem and what steps should come next. They also plan to place an NG tube to empty her stomach, with the hope that creating additional space around her chest may help give her lungs and diaphragm more room to work.

Through every development, Loretta has remained at her daughter’s side.

But being a mother in this position means fighting two battles at once: trying to remain strong for her child while also knowing that her own body needs rest.

“I don’t want her to feel abandoned if I’m not right next to her,” Loretta said.

She understands that she needs sleep. She knows she must care for herself so she can continue being there for Janearae. But when your daughter is sedated, intubated and struggling after receiving the heart you waited so long for, walking away—even for a few hours—can feel impossible. 💔

Loretta continues reminding herself that Janearae knows she is deeply loved.
