Barack Obama 'better stand down,' says NBA star Anthony Edwards in viral video

NBA star Anthony Edwards did not mince his words with former US President Barack Obama during the summer Olympics in Paris.

After Team USA secured gold and regained basketball supremacy in the Olympics, Netflix released a docuseries тιтled ‘Court of Gold’ following their journey in the French capital.

Upon the release, a clip from one of the episodes went viral for Obama’s interaction with the Minnesota Timberwolves poster boy.

In a gathering with the team, the 44th US president chatted with 76ers center Joel Embiid about Edwards.

‘What do you think of this young guy?’ Obama asked Embiid about the 23-year-old. ‘He can hoop a little bit, huh?’

Edwards, who was selected for the team behind an exceptional playoff run, overheard the conversation and chimed in.

‘Man, y’all better stand down. I’m the truth,’ Edwards confidently claimed.

Thrown by the response, Obama followed up by asking, ‘You said you’re the truth, yeah?’

‘These boys know,’ Edwards replied with the same confidence. In response, Obama checked with the older players, starting with LeBron James.

After Edwards explained the context behind the question, James backed him, echoing, ‘This man [is] the truth.’

Phoenix Suns forward and future Hall of Famer Kevin Durant also heard the conversation and said, ‘I got nothing wrong with that.’

Edwards became a key contributor to the United States’ path to gold apart from his success in the NBA.

In last year’s postseason, Edwards led the Timberwolves to beat Durant’s Suns and dethroned Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets in the second round. Unfortunately, they lost to the Dallas Mavericks in the Conference Final.

Minnesota sits seventh in the Western Conference with a 31-25 record. The former Georgia Bulldog averages 27.5 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.5 ᴀssists per game halfway through the season.
