Aaron Rodgers still weighing up shock NFL retirement despite links to Pittsburgh Steelers

With his options dwindling as the days go by, free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers has some big questions that need answering for his future.

Rodgers, 41, played last season with the New York Jets but was cut from the team after a poor 2024 campaign.

In free agency, Rodgers has been linked with teams such as the New York Giants and the Minnesota Vikings.

However, both those links appear to have run cold. Reports indicated the Vikings were going to pᴀss on him and after the Giants signed Russell Wilson, Rodgers is a luxury they couldn’t afford.

This essentially just leaves the Pittsburgh Steelers – a team with a need at starting quarterback – as the final team to be interested in Rodgers.

But, according to Adam Schefter, while the Steelers and Rodgers could be a match made in heaven, the gunslinger could still decide to retire after 20 seasons.

‘I think that first of all, they both need each other right now, frankly. And that’s if Aaron wants to play. Which I’m not convinced yet that he does,’ Schefter said.

‘Until I hear him, ‘I want to play,’ then I can tell you people are asking that question about whether or not he wants to play. It’s come up.

‘I’m hearing he might not want to play. Which by the way, again, I don’t want to speak for him because I don’t want to get called out. +

‘We’re speculating, but it shouldn’t be that hard. Either you want to play for the Steelers or you don’t. What are we waiting for?’

Rodgers has regressed in recent years. Since winning the MVP award in 2021, he hasn’t managed to throw for over 4,000 yards.

That includes a 2023 season cut short due to injury sustained on the opening drive of the season.
