The Giants find their quarterback in Russell Wilson, until they find their next one

The Giants swung for the fences — and settled for a sacrifice fly.

After failing to acquire Matt Stafford — or receive a commitment from Aaron Rodgers — the Giants landed their Super Bowl-winning quarterback by signing Russell Wilson to become their stopgap starter on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million ($10.5 million guaranteed).

Adding the 36-year-old veteran, as well as Jameis Winston to a two-year, $8 million deal last week, does not prevent the Giants from selecting a franchise quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft, in which they hold the No. 3 pick.

Last year, Wilson showed interest in coming to New York and met with the Giants, but he had no interest in serving as Daniel Jones’ backup. Wilson signed with Pittsburgh, where he made 11 uneven starts, throwing 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, and losing his final five games, including a playoff defeat in Baltimore.
