Despite a resurgent 2024 campaign, Russell Wilson is running out of options in his search for a new team for 2025.
A free agent after his deal with the Steelers expired, the 36-year-old Wilson was keen to stay in Pittsburgh but the organization has since been prioritizing a move for Aaron Rodgers.
An alternative landing spot for both Rodgers and Wilson has been mooted as the New York Giants. The Giants need a No. 1 signal caller after another disaster of a season in 2024 that saw Daniel Jones get cut and they were expected to turn to Wilson if Rodgers signs for the Steelers.
But that is no longer the case. Wilson, a Super Bowl winner, is now not considered to be an alternative for the Giants if Rodgers goes to the Steelers, or anywhere else.
A report Monday from Sports Illustrated says that after the Giants signed Jameis Winston last week, it makes a move for Super Bowl winner Wilson ‘less likely’.
Winston signed a two-year deal in New York worth $8million.

If the Giants miss out on Rodgers, they could instead choose their main quarterback with the third pick of this year’s NFL Draft.
Cam Ward is widely expected to go first – the Tennessee тιтans hold that pick – while there is also huge excitement around Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter.
Shedeur Sanders, the former Colorado quarterback, has been most strongly linked to the Giants.
Wilson, meanwhile, sent out a defiant message on social media on Friday after it emerged that Rodgers was at the Steelers facility for a visit.
After news broke of Rodgers’ visit, Wilson posted on X: ‘Relentless Confidence. Don’t ever stop believing in you!’
Wilson, who is married to the singer Ciara, often posts motivational phrases on social media but the timing of Friday’s post was curious given the Rodgers news.
The Cleveland Browns could be an option for Wilson, but they recently traded for Kenny Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles and also hold the second pick in the Draft.
Pickett also said last week that he views himself as the starter for the Browns while Deshaun Watson recovers from a torn Achilles that needed two operations.

Wilson impressed with the Steelers last year. After missing the first six games with a calf issue, he replaced Justin Fields and led his team to the postseason. They were eventually beaten by the Baltimore Ravens.
And while there are signs that the Steelers are opting for Rodgers, it might not be the most popular move in the Steelers locker room.
Earlier this week, Steelers star Cam Heyward told Rodgers to hurry up and make a decision about his new team.
Speaking on his own podcast, the defensive tackle said: ‘I ain’t doing that darkness retreat. I don’t need any of that c**p.
‘Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple, that’s the pitch.’
