NBA star Jimmy Butler 'wreaked $125k in damages on Miami home' before Warriors move: 'Complete disrepair'

NBA star Jimmy Butler has been accused of causing $125k in damages to a luxury Miami Beach rental before his recent move to Golden State.

Butler, who left the Miami Heat to join the Golden State Warriors as part of a five-team trade last month, has been hit with a lawsuit after allegedly leaving the $130k-a-month pad in ‘complete disrepair’, reports the Miami Herald.

Court documents obtained by WPLG 10 state that the property had mold issues, damaged drywall and flooring, a broken HVAC system and an unmaintained pool by the time the 35-year-old left for San Francisco.

The suit, filed by Five Star Marketing and Promotions, alleges that Butler failed to pay two months’ rent after his lease expired at the 5,398-square-foot rental, while he is also accused of not granting the owner access to conduct standard inspections.

Five Star claims he signed the lease in August 2022, before eventually staying at the property for two extra months following its expiration in August 2024.

Butler’s team allegedly denied workers access to look at the broken HVAC system, while the air conditioning unit’s blocked condensation lines are said to have created a ‘significant’ leak in the ceiling and hardwood floors, which both had to be removed and replaced.

The five-time NBA All-Star forward is even alleged to have hired his own pool-cleaning staff who neglected the amenity, meaning algae formed and the pumps broke, while he also changed the locks without providing the landlord with a new key.

As a result, the company is suing him for close to $260k – accounting for two months’ rent and property damages.

Five Star also claims it is legally enтιтled to his $130k security deposit.

The suit comes almost a month on from Butler’s stunning trade to the Warriors, which finally brought his bitter feud with the Heat to a close.

It ended with the team indefinitely suspending him as Miami president Pat Riley looked to find a trade partner to move the wantaway star.

His final weeks with the franchise were fraught with issues as he demanded to be moved, only for the Heat to initially push back on his request before eventually relenting.

That led to a post-game interview in early January where Butler said he wanted to ‘get my joy back’ in playing basketball, which he believed wasn’t possible in Miami.

Those comments resulted in a seven-game suspension for Butler, which he served before returning to the team.

After moving to Golden State, Butler inked a two-year, $121million extension with the Warriors through the 2026-27 season after previously signing a three-year, $146.4m deal with the Heat in August 2021. He also declined his player option in the 2025-26 season.
