In 1907, the mysterious tomb KV55 was discovered by archaeologists in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings. This was the burial place of many Egyptian pharaohs and royal family members over the centuries.
According to observations and measurements by experts, the KV55 tomb is quite small in size and has a simple structure. It seems that the tomb was built in a hurry and the mummy was moved from another place to this ancient tomb.
Many areas inside the KV55 tomb were severely damaged, including the entrance and stairs.
Archaeologists discovered four wooden vases, a gilded wooden shrine, seals, a porcelain vase, a silver goose head, and two clay bricks. They paid special attention to the coffin. Inside the coffin was a mummy.
Over thousands of years, the coffin had rotted quite seriously. The condition of the mummy was also not good, in which the face of the deceased was no longer intact.
From the discovered artifacts, experts began to research to decipher the idenтιтy of the tomb’s owner. Initially, they speculated that the mummy belonged to Queen Kiya – wife of Pharaoh Akhenaten.
The reason is because the four wooden jars in the tomb contained effigies of four women, believed to be Akhenaten’s daughters. Experts believe that the ancients created these effigies for the famous Egyptian queen Kiya because she gave birth to four daughters for her husband.
In February 2010, scientists carefully examined the mummy found in Tomb KV55 using modern techniques. Thanks to that, they determined that the remains belonged to a male who died at about 35 years old.
From this information, archaeologists compared it with historical information and came to the conclusion that the owner of tomb KV55 was pharaoh Akhenaten.
However, experts have not been able to explain why this Egyptian prince was buried in a simple tomb with very few valuable burial objects.
