Stefon Diggs meets with Patriots in first visit of his free agency

Stefon Diggs is making his first team visit a little more than four months after reconstructive surgery on his ACL.

The wide receiver was in New England visiting with the Patriots on Wednesday, and if all goes well, a deal could come out of it, The Athletic reported.

Diggs, 31, spent last season with the Texans but had his year cut short after he sustained a season-ending ACL tear after eight games.

He finished with 496 receiving yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots will be using the time with Diggs to ascertain more information on Diggs’ post-ACL surgery condition, the Boston Herald reported.

No contract had been agreed to as of Wednesday night.

Should Diggs sign with the Patriots, he would essentially become the team’s No. 1 receiver with the team’s wideout group consisting of Kendrick Bourne, Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kayshon Boutte, Ja’Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, JaQuae Jackson and John Jiles.

тιԍнт end Hunter Henry was the team’s leading pᴀss-catcher with 674 yards on 66 receptions in 2024.

Hollins has been the Patriots’ lone receiver signing in free agency.

They failed in trying to sign Chris Godwin — who agreed to a contract extension in Tampa Bay — and Cooper Kupp — who joined the Seahawks on Tuesday.

Diggs has played 10 years in the NFL and spent four in Western New York with the Bills before his lone campaign with the Texans.

Before the injury last year, the four-time Pro Bowler recorded six straight seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards.

He had his best season in 2020 — his first year in Buffalo — with career-highs in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535).

Diggs played the first five years of his career in Minnesota after he was taken in the fifth round of the 2015 draft by the Vikings.

It’s unclear if Diggs will be ready for the start of training camp.
