Justin Fields spurned the interest of the incumbent Pittsburgh Steelers to sign with the New York Jets earlier this month, it has been revealed.
Fields spent the 2024 season with the Steelers after being traded from the Chicago Bears and started the first six games of the campaign, amᴀssing a 4-2 record.
Then Pittsburgh made the decision to start a healthy Russell Wilson the rest of the season, with the Steelers falling to the Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
Fields rebuke of the Steelers comes from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who reports that Pittsburgh had a similar offer on the table to its former signal caller to the one he accepted to move to the Jets.
‘Last week or a week and a half ago, they put together an offer for Justin Field that I was told was very compeтιтive with what the Jets offered him, which was close to two years, $40million with $30million guaranteed,’ Fowler said on ‘The Dan Patrick Show’.
‘Something went off where he chose the Jets and he must’ve felt the love more from the Jets than he did the Steelers, who essentially benched him last year for Russell Wilson.’

‘I do believe they were all-in on Fields. I don’t know if they had Fields ahead of Rodgers, but they were willing to do Fields. Both sides, at one point, were open to it. It didn’t work.’
Fields now replaces Aaron Rodgers as New York’s starting quarterback, with the 41-year-old still looking for his new team.
The Steelers, crosstown Giants, and Minnesota Vikings appear to be the likely landing spots for the former NFL MVP after he was told the Jets were moving in a different direction.
Wilson is still without a team as well, with the same suitors looking into attaining a veteran quarterback. Only the Giants have an early draft pick, giving them another avenue to a highly rated signal caller.
Fields was drafted by the Chicago Bears in 2021 and started for them for three years before they opted to draft Caleb Williams.
It is possible Fields got the last laugh over Pittsburgh after his acquisition after they turned away from him first to start Wilson.
