Giants meeting with volatile Jameis Winston in latest twist in quarterback search

At some point, “leave no stone unturned’’ will result in the Giants actually uncovering a veteran quarterback to sign to their roster.

With that in mind, the Giants on Tuesday will welcome Jameis Winston into their team facility.

Previously, they brought in Russell Wilson and Joe Flacco and continue to hold out hope that their prime target, Aaron Rodgers, will choose to continue his NFL career by playing for the Giants.

Of course, the Giants’ true top target was Matthew Stafford but they were unable to pry him away from the Rams.

Winston, 31, would be quite a reach.

In his 10-year NFL career, Winston has been one of the league’s most perilous high-wire acts, mixing in fantastic and brutally bad throws, often in the same game and sometimes from one series to the next.

He has a cannon right arm and on occasion puts the ball where he wants it to go.

Last season, he went 2-5 as a starter for the Browns, with 13 touchdown pᴀsses and 12 interceptions.

In 2019 playing for the Buccaneers, Winston went 7-9 and was a highlight and lowlight film all wrapped into one.

He fired 33 touchdown pᴀsses and an NFL-high 30 interceptions that season, the last time he was a full-time starter in the league. He also threw for a league-leading 5,109 yards. Winston has 154 touchdown pᴀsses and 111 interceptions on his NFL resume.

The Bucs made Winston the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. He has played for the Bucs, Saints and Browns and is now a right arm for hire.

The plan for the Giants remains to find their next franchise quarterback in next month’s NFL draft but they are concerned that they will not be able to make a trade up to No. 1 with the тιтans to get Cam Ward.

It is growing increasingly apparent that the тιтans intend to stay put and select Ward. The Giants have the No. 3 pick and are not ᴀssured that Shedeur Sanders will be on the board, with the Browns sitting at No. 2 and also in need of a quarterback.
