Set in a dystopian future where society has collapsed and the world is ravaged by nuclear war and resource scarcity, the film follows Max Rockatansky (Mel Gibson), a lone drifter and former police officer. The world is a desolate wasteland with nomadic tribes fighting over the remaining resources, primarily fuel.
Max comes across a fortified community known as βThe Compound,β which is being besieged by a ruthless gang led by the warlord Humungus (Kjell Nilsson). The Compoundβs inhabitants have a large cache of fuel, which makes them a prime target for the gang. In exchange for gasoline, Max agrees to help the community escape the siege.
