Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch’s failed drug test letter from NFL goes up for auction

Super Bowl champion Marshawn Lynch's failed drug test letter from NFL goes up for auction

Those wanting to own a unique piece of NFL history had the chance to do so through Leland’s in bidding a failed drug test letter issued to Marshawn Lynch in April 2009.

The letter, sent from NFL executive Lawrence Brown to what appears to be Lynch’s former home in the Buffalo suburb of Hamburg, New York, states the running back tested positive for marijuana on March 24, 2009.

The letter is marked confidential on both sides and had a starting bid of $300 on Leland’s website, with the auction beginning last month, per TMZ.

The auction is over, as the item is no longer available to be bid on, despite an end date for the letter on Saturday.

Leland’s website states the auction drew 859 online views and received no bids before the lot was withdrawn.

The NFL does not suspend players for marijuana use, with the letter stating as much, even with it being marked as a failure on Lynch’s part.

‘1. Based upon a review of the collection documents and the above date, there is no scientific reason to shed any doubt on the above determination,’ the letter states. ‘2. Scientifically, the above information suggests consumption of the above substance.’

‘PLAN: This information is provided for clinical purposes only.’

Why Lynch did not retain the original copy of the failed drug test is unclear, as it why it is no longer available on Leland’s website.

Lynch was on the Bills at the time of the failed test, playing for the team from 2007 through 2010.

The current Prime Video football analyst turned into one of the NFL’s best running backs of the 21st century after his failed drug test.

Lynch has not stayed away from being a known weed user, launching the brand Dodi Blunts in 2021.
