NFL rookie fumes after being forced to pick up six-figure check for team dinner at luxury Detroit steakhouse

Detroit Lions rookie Terrion Arnold received a scare when he reportedly picked up the check at the team’s dinner.

‘Rookie dinners’ are often a traditional welcome to the NFL by a lot of teams around the league when the franchise’s newcomers are made to pay the – often extortionate – tab for their veteran teammates.

As the 2024 season came to a close, it was Arnold’s turn to step up for the Detroit Lions. And the first-round pick received a reality check along with the actual check.

Arnold, the 24th overall pick in last year’s draft, took to social media to reveal that he had allegedly paid the check for himself and 19 of his teammates at the luxurious Sєxy Steak restaurant in Detroit on January 8.

The receipt showed that the 20 players’ meals came to a staggering $80,000. But that wasn’t all the cornerback had to fork out for.

The 22-percent large party service fee cost $17,600, while taxes came to $4,800, taking the total to a monster $102,400.

While many NFL stars rake in million, including Josh Allen and his new $330million contract, rookie’s tend to be on lower deals.

Arnold’s rookie deal is a four-year pact worth $14.343 million but his 2024 base salary was only $795,000, according to Spotrac.

It is unclear from Arnold’s post whether he was required to splash out the full amount or whether the Lions’ other 2024 rookies – Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Giovanni Manu, Sione Vaki, Mekhi Wingo and Christian Mahogany – also chipped in.

It’s also unclear if Arnold did in fact have to pay the astronomical amount, or whether it was a prank from himself or his teammates.

Sєxy Steak is an Italian-style steakhouse located on the outskirts of Downtown Detroit.

The Motor City establishment describes itself as offering a ‘modern take on an Italian steakhouse with prime cuts, an extensive drink menu, and live music.’
