How Anthony Richardson reacted to Daniel Jones signing with Colts

Anthony Richardson’s agent got ahead of trade rumors after the Colts targeted Vikings and ex-Giants quarterback Daniel Jones for a compeтιтion this offseason.

Indianapolis is expected to sign Jones to a one-year, $14 million contract that’s worth up to $17.7 million and includes $13.15 million guaranteed.

Richardson’s agent Deiric Jackson said the 2023 No. 4 overall pick is healthy and has no plans to seek a trade following the Jones acquisition.

“AR will be ready to roll,” Jackson told NFL Network.

Colts general manager Chris Ballard told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine last month that he would explore free agency, a trade or the draft to find “real compeтιтion” for Richardson.

“I think that’s good for the team and I think it’s good for Anthony,” Ballard said.

“It’s gotta be the right guy to create real compeтιтion. But we want to create real compeтιтion.”

Richardson endured a turbulent sophomore season that has muddied his outlook with the franchise after being selected fourth overall in the 2023 Draft.

He completed 47.7 percent of his pᴀsses for 1,814 yards with eight touchdowns and 12 interceptions in 11 games last season, and the team temporarily benched him for Joe Flacco after he pulled himself from a game.

The quarterback has dealt with turnover issues across 15 starts in Indianapolis.

Former Colts punter and superfan Pat McAfee is among those who question whether Indianapolis has its quarterback of the future.

Colts head coach Shane Steichen said he’s looking for more “consistency” from Richardson.

“I think every year is like that in the NFL,” Steichen said at the combine when asked if it’s a make-or-break year for Richardson. “You got to show up and play. Every year its pressure situations and you got to show up week in and week out and put on your best performance.”

Jones, 27, did not appear in a game for Minnesota after joining the Vikings prior to the playoffs last season following his Giants exit.

He is looking to reclaim a QB1 role after 69 starts across six seasons with the Giants.

Jones completed 1,437 of 2,241 pᴀsses (64.1 percent) for 14,582 yards, 70 TDs and 47 interceptions in his five-plus years with the Giants.

Jason Bean, who was on the practice squad majority of last season, is the only other quarterback under contract for the Colts in 2025.
