Brett Favre urging Aaron Rodgers to sign with one team in NFL free agency: ‘By all means’

One Packers great is encouraging another to follow in his footsteps yet again.

Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre on Tuesday encouraged Aaron Rodgers to sign with the Vikings.

Rodgers still seemingly considers them an option after his time with the Jets came to an end.

If the 41-year-old were to sign in Minnesota, it would be a near carbon copy of Favre’s NFL career.

After spending the majority of his career with the Packers, Favre was traded to the Jets and played one season (2008) in the Big Apple before playing his final two seasons (2009-10) in Minnesota.

Now, he’s hoping Rodgers — who spent two years in New York after 18 in Green Bay — does the same.

“By all means, sign with them. They got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position,” Favre said during an appearance on “The Will Cain Show on Tuesday.” They made it to the playoffs last year. They got a tremendous fan base, much like the Packers. If you get the opportunity, that’s a good place to win. Of course, you gotta play the Packers then.”

The Packers and Vikings are bitter NFC North rivals, which sparked some tension when Favre, who played 16 seasons in Green Bay, signed in Minnesota in 2009.

Rodgers replaced Favre in Green Bay after the latter’s trade to New York.

Whether Rodgers actually wants to follow the Brett Favre path isn’t yet clear.

While The Athletic’s Michael Silver posted on X: “Don’t rule out Aaron Rodgers and the Vikings,” NFL Network also reported that the Vikings are expected to pivot to make J.J. McCarthy their starter.

The Steelers and Giants both appear to still be in the mix for Rodgers.
