Wins in NFL free agency don’t always equal victories in September — let alone in January.

It’s funny how well-run organizations always find a way to absorb their offseason “losses,” too.

But free agency is about instant reaction.

For example, the Patriots’ $282 million Monday spending spree feels less like a win after a quiet Tuesday, with big holes still unfilled at receiver and left tackle.
