NFL analyst says a ‘couch’ is Aaron Rodgers’ best fit in free agency as Steelers, Giants loom

From the locker room to the living room.

That’s the direction NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson believes Aaron Rodgers should take in NFL free agency as speculation continues to mount over the ex-Jets quarterback’s next landing spot.

When asked Monday about the “best fit” for the four-time league MVP — who’s been connected to the Steelers and Giants — Robinson wasted no time suggesting an armchair.

“Ah, man, that recliner he got in that big house he got, that’s the best fit, the couch. Man, what are you doing, Aaron?” Robinson said, as covered by Awful Announcing.

“You have made almost $400 million in this league. You’ve got your championship. You are one of the all-time greats, man, you’re great in the media, I would love to see you with a podcast or something, I think you would be very entertaining. But, yes, we saw him look better toward the end of last season with the New York Jets, man, but I don’t know.”

Robinson, a former NFL fullback, then elaborated why Pittsburgh could be a potential option, citing the “structure.”

“They are used to dealing with older players. [Coach] Mike Tomlin understands how to talk to a guy like an Aaron Rodgers,” said Robinson, who then posed the question of whether the 41-year-old quarterback is “going to be all the way in?”

“Is he going to come to OTAs? Is he going to come to mini camp? Is he going to have some retreats he has to go on? Does he have his own business he has to do? I mean, I don’t know. The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t used to that type of life coming from their quarterback so I would say the recliner.”

Rodgers is coming off two mundane seasons with the Jets, who acquired him in a 2023 blockbuster trade with the Packers.

He was sidelined for much of his first season due to an Achilles injury and returned to action in 2024, when the Jets finished at 5-12 and missed the playoffs.

Rodgers completed 63 percent of his pᴀsses last season, throwing for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 17 games.

Before the start of last season, the future Hall of Famer stirred buzz over his widely publicized trip to Egypt during the Jets’ mandatory minicamp.

Rodgers also made weekly appearances on “The Pat McAfee Show” during the season.

The Steelers need a quarterback after Justin Fields agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with Rodgers’ former Jets team on Monday.

Pittsburgh had reportedly been leaning towards Fields, 26, who started the first six games of the 2024 season while Russell Wilson dealt with a calf issue.

Although Wilson, 36, finished the season as the starter, the Steelers rode a five-game losing streak to close out the year.

The Super Bowl-winning quarterback with the Seahawks is also on the market.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported Monday the Steelers and Rodgers “could have an agreement in place as soon as Tuesday.”

The Giants have also eyed Rodgers as a potential answer to their quarterback deficiency after missing out on Matthew Stafford in late February.

Free agents can officially sign with their new teams Wednesday.
