Xavier Worthy and his fiancee Tia Jones are in the spotlight after the Kansas City Chiefs star was arrested last week.
The wide receiver was detained for allegedly strangling a ‘family or household member’ in the Austin suburb of Georgetown.
Worthy could have faced up to 10 years in prison if convicted on the charge of ‘ᴀssault against a family or household member by impeding breathing or circulation’, a third-degree felony.
But the authorities declined to press charges and, in a statement from his attorneys, Worthy sensationally alleged he was the victim of infidelity and an extortion plot.
‘The complainant was recently asked to vacate Mr. Worthy’s residence upon discovery of her infidelity,’ his lawyers said. ‘She has refused to do so and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy.’
The statement does not name Jones, a professional sprinter, and precise details surrounding the alleged ᴀssault remain unclear.

Worthy’s arrest came just weeks after he scored two touchdowns in the Super Bowl. The 21-year-old was drafted by the Chiefs last year and he has been engaged to sprinter Jones since July 2024.
Around the same time, the couple bought a home together in Williamson County, Texas. Though it is unclear if that is where the alleged incident took place.
Jones last year revealed that the couple met by chance one night, when they crossed paths at a valet station.
She was running late for dinner with friends but recognized Worthy. He had previously messaged her on Instagram but she did not respond.
That night, though, they crossed paths at a Texas restaurant. She was training in the area and he was playing for the Longhorns. After seeing each other at the valet, he sent her another message and asked her out on a date.
‘That’s why God had me late to that dinner because I met my man,’ Jones said.
Precise details on when their relationship began remain unclear. But Worthy proposed in July 2024.
In a video on their joint Instagram account, the couple wandered along the beach – wearing all-white outfits – before Worthy got down on one knee. Travis Kelce was among those to congratulate the couple.

The 24-year-old is a sprinter who specializes in the 100m hurdles and turned professional after high school in Georgia.
She was a standout student-athlete who broke multiple 100m hurdle national records and earned a spot at the University of Oregon.
Before opting to turn professional, rather than race at college, she set the freshman, sophomore and junior class records in the 100m hurdles, according to MileSplit.
Jones collected medals at numerous national and international events. She also won тιтles in the long jump. She then followed in the footsteps of athletes such as Noah Lyles and skipped college.
The 24-year-old was signed to Adidas and reached the semifinals of the US Olympic trials in 2024.
She also matched the women’s world record for the 60m hurdles before suffering an ACL injury.
Her rehabilitation involved some ‘dark times’ but did allow her to be there for Worthy’s rookie season, which ended with the Chiefs losing to the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

‘God just aligned up everything the way it did,’ she said.

The 24-year-old has posted TikTok vlogs of her life supporting Worthy, including an August 2024 clip about a ‘day in (the) life as an NFL wife’.
During Super Bowl week in New Orleans, Jones recorded a vlog showing how she juggles her life as a professional athlete and the fiancee of an NFL star.
