Bills cut Von Miller in salary cap cost-saving move

The Buffalo Bills have released veteran linebacker Von Miller in a strategic move to create salary cap space, as reported by NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.

Miller’s release frees $8.4 million against the cap, though they will incur $15.4 million in ᴅᴇᴀᴅ cap.

There’s also a reported interest in Miller returning to Buffalo from both sides despite the release, as the Bills opt for financial flexibility.

In expressing an openness to a potential reunion, the team acknowledged Miller’s significant contributions over his three seasons in Buffalo, in which he appeared in 36 games.

Miller, a two-time Super Bowl Champion, played with the Bills from 2022 to 2024.

Miller recorded 14 sacks across three seasons, with his coming in 2024.

The long-time edge rusher joined Buffalo in 2022 on a six-year, $120 million contract, although, injuries, off-field issues and a lack of raw production, though his advanced metrics were favorable.

In 2022, Miller suffered a torn ACL, which shortened his initial season with the Bills, his best of the three, where he recorded eight sacks in 11 starts.

In 2024, Miller received a four-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following allegations of ᴀssault, which he denied.

Miller, who turns 36 on March 26, enters free agency with 129.5 career sacks, the most of an active NFL player and is 25th in the history of the league, and is just 12 away from a top ten spot, the last of which is currently held by former Giants great Michael Strahan.
