Aaron Rodgers' ex-Jets teammate makes astonishing prediction as quarterback is linked with Vikings

With the expected departure of his team’s quarterback, New York Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner has offered his thoughts on where Aaron Rodgers might end up.

Rodgers, who the Jets acquired by trade in the 2023 offseason, is set to be cut by the team this year after a basically non-existent first season and a lackluster second season.

With rumors speculating about Rodgers’ next move, Gardner has offered his thoughts on the new front-runners for the 41-year-old’s services.

In recent days, the Minnesota Vikings have become the favorites for Rodgers’ signature as all signs point to Sam Darnold leaving the Twin Cities for a new challenge.

With this as the background, Gardner posted to X, ‘If Aaron goes to the Vikings, he might be #1 in all QB stats [crying emoji].’

The sentiment makes sense if you consider things from a personnel standpoint, as the Vikings have some of the best pᴀss catchers in the NFL.

But Rodgers hasn’t exactly impressed in his last two seasons in the Meadowlands. He missed almost the entire 2023 NFL season when he tore his Achilles tendon just four plays into his Jets debut.

Then last year, with full health, Rodgers could only manage a 5-12 record. A new regime atop the Jets made the choice to axe the ageing gunslinger in favor of a re-build on offense.

But even if the Vikings do make a move for Rodgers, there’s no indication he’ll step into the starting role. Minnesota was expected to give the starting job to JJ McCarthy last season before turning to Darnold when the rookie McCarthy went down with a season-ending injury in the pre-season.

Rodgers has been linked with other teams, like the New York Giants, and will likely hope to remain a starter.

But if Rodgers does sign in Minnesota, he’ll follow an eerily similar path to Brett Favre. Both quarterbacks started for the Green Bay Packers and won Super Bowls there before departing for the Jets.

Favre eventually moved to the Vikings after his time in East Rutherford was done. If Rodgers also goes to Minnesota, it’d be a hell of a coincidence.
