New shock team emerges in race to sign Aaron Rodgers as pursuit of 41-year-old picks up

It may be deja vu for diehard football fans as the latest team to emerge as a candidate to sign Aaron Rodgers is a throwback and a shocker – the Minnesota Vikings.

Rodgers making a reunion in the NFC North did not appear as a possibility until late Friday evening, with the Vikings being considered a ‘dark horse’, per Ian Rapoport.

In the NFL’s offseason quarterback roulette, the Jets have released the 41-year-old Rodgers with the Giants the favorites to land him after mᴀssive reported interest.

The Giants are looking for a new quarterback after they released Daniel Jones last year, with him landing in Minnesota.

After the Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Raiders, Seattle is interested in attaining the services Sam Darnold, who was the Vikings’ starter last season.

Should Darnold move to the Pacific Northwest, Minnesota could be in the market for another quarterback.

Rodgers landing in Minnesota would complete the trifecta done by Brett Favre more than a decade ago. It was Rodgers who replaced Favre as the Packers’ signal caller, starting a late-career journeyman experience.

Favre spent one season with the Jets before finishing his career with the Vikings after a long stay with the Packers. Rodgers may now play for a second NFC North team.

The only difference in their careers was that Favre was drafted and played for the Falcons before making his way to Wisconsin, as opposed to Rodgers, who was drafted by Green Bay.

The NFL league year begins on Wednesday, with a fury of moves expected next week.

Last month, Rodgers stated his desires for his next team, with the Giants appearing to check most boxes. The Vikings may check even more as a team that won 14 games last season.
