Jaxon Smith-Njigba in disbelief again after Seahawks’ stunning Geno Smith trade

Jaxon Smith-Njigba must have initially thought that he was having a bad dream.

The young 1,000-yard receiver was taking an early-evening nap Friday when the Seahawks traded away his starting quarterback, Geno Smith, for a third-round draft pick.

“Broooo I just got up,” Smith-Njigba wrote on X. “You lying.”

It was not a lie.

Smith is headed to the Raiders, which leaves the Seahawks without a quarterback for the time being.

But Smith-Njigba, 23, likely won’t have to wait long to find out who will be throwing pᴀsses his way because free agency opens Monday, and the Seahawks are expected to be players to sign Sam Darnold or Aaron Rodgers.

A case could be made that both Darnold and Rodgers represent upgrades over Smith, who threw 21 touchdown pᴀsses and 15 interceptions last season as the magic from his surprise back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons in 2022 and 2023 began to fade.

The funny twist is that Smith-Njigba’s older brother seemed to know that he was sleeping and in for a major surprise.

Shortly after the Seahawks-Raiders deal was consummated, Cannan Smith-Njigba, a former Yankees prospect who played in the majors for the Pirates and remains an unsigned MLB free agent, posted on X, “Jaxon wake up you gotta see this.”

The unsettling news continued a wake-up call of a week for Smith-Njigba.

Part of one of the NFL’s best receiving trios over his first two NFL seasons, Smith-Njigba could be the last one standing in Year 3.

Tyler Lockett was released, and DK Metcalf requested a trade that the Seahawks are open to facilitating at the right price.

“Ayooo wtf,” Smith-Njigba wrote after the Metcalf trade request was publicized.

Smith-Njigba’s reactions to the Seahawks’ moves in free agency will be a must-see.
