NFL star intends to make shock return to football after abruptly retiring last year

After just one year of sitting away from an NFL sideline, a former Dallas Cowboys star is itching to get back in the game and is set to un-retire.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, ex-Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup will be attempting a pro football comeback next season.

Just before calling it a career (for the first time), Gallup signed a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders in April of 2024.

Then, in the middle of the summer, Gallup announced his retirement from football.

But with this news of a comeback, the Raiders have released him from the reserve/retired list in order to let him test the waters of free agency this offseason.

Gallup had spent his entire career with the Cowboys since being drafted by them in 2018 with the 81st pick out of Colorado State.

After a rookie season of uncertainty with the Cowboys, he broke out in his sophomore campaign with 1,107 yards on 66 receptions plus six touchdowns.

He had a strong third season as well with 59 catches for 843 yards plus five touchdowns.

However, in the 2021, 2022, and 2023 seasons, Gallup failed to top 40 catches, 450 yards, or five touchdowns.

While the 2021 season was affected by a torn ACL, the seasons after that saw him struggle to keep his footing toward the top of the depth chart.

As CeeDee Lamb solidified himself as the team’s top target (with Brandin Cooks and тιԍнт end Jake Ferguson also getting more balls thrown their way), Gallup’s time in Dallas became unproductive.

The Cowboys released him in March of 2024, prompting his move to the Raiders.

In total, Gallup has caught 266 pᴀsses for 3,744 yards and 21 touchdowns across his entire NFL career.
