Amid the New York Giants looking into Aaron Rodgers as the team’s next starting quarterback, one reporter who covers the franchise gave a major update on how close the two sides are to coming together.
While appearing on Rodgers’ favorite program, the Pat McAfee Show, Giants reporter Art Stapleton said he believes the sides are getting closer to a deal to keep the future Hall of Famer in the Big Apple.
Rodgers is hitting free agency for the first time in his career, with limited options of teams that want to invest in someone into their fifth decade on Earth, as well as the money to make him happy.
Playing home games in New Jersey appears to be as strong of an option as Rodgers has, regardless of the Giants’ status as a team ready to win now.
‘They are pretty significantly down a road where they are negotiating to the point where if Aaron Rodgers ends up as a Giant before they start of the league year, next year, it would not be a shock to people in this area and in the Meadowlands,’ Stapleton saids.
Rodgers is not believed to be part of the talks yet due to his pedigree, having people like his agent take care of those conversations for him. The start of the NFL year is next Wednesday, March 12.

‘You can’t get involved with a player of the caliber of Aaron Rodgers and his resume without at least having an understanding as to what ballpark you have to be in and what he’s willing to do at age 41 after what he’s gone through the last two years,’ Stapleton continued.
‘At every turn, the Giants have yet to be sacred off by the idea of Aaron Rodgers coming on some show every Tuesday. Seems like everybody wants that to be the big issue. I think from a football fit, this is something that they’re seriously considering.’
After Rodgers tore his Achilles four offensive snaps into his Jets career in 2023, he stayed in the headlines by his appearances on McAfee’s show.
That continued last season where Rodgers debuted Davante Adams as a Jet on McAfee’s show and continued to say things where he thought he may get taken off the air.
McAfee said he has not talked to Rodgers recently, while co-host AJ Hawk said he briefly talked to the 41-year-old and he would be back on the show ‘soon.’ What soon means is up in the air to everyone.
Last month, Rodgers stated his desires for his next team, with the Giants appearing to check most boxes.
