Eagles release James Bradberry one day after Darius Slay breakup

The Eagles aren’t done shaking up their roster.

One day after releasing cornerback Darius Slay, the Eagles are parting ways with fellow veteran defensive back James Bradberry after three seasons, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday.

The move will be designated as a post-June 1 release, meaning the reigning Super Bowl champions can save $2.1 million in cap space.

This $2.1 million will add to the $4.3 million saved from Slay’s release Monday.

A former second-round pick out of Samford in 2016, Bradberry began his career with the Panthers and stayed in Carolina for four seasons.

He then signed a three-year, $29.80 million deal with the Giants in 2020.

Bradberry’s time with the Giants ended in May 2022 after the new regime of general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll could not find a trade partner.

He landed with Big Blue’s loathed rival later in the month.

“You know what? I’m glad I got to experience — one, I would say the Philadelphia Eagles fan base, greatest fan base in the world,” Bradberry, 31, said Tuesday, according to PHLY’s Zach Berman.

“I’m glad I got to experience the highs and the lows of being a part of the Philadelphia Eagles. I’m going to always cherish these moments that I had.”

Bradberry reached the Super Bowl in his first season with the Eagles and was at the center of a controversial holding penalty in Philadelphia’s 38-35 loss to the Chiefs in February 2023.

Although he couldn’t play in this year’s Super Bowl rematch after suffering a torn Achilles over the summer, Bradberry was proud to be a piece of the team that walloped the Chiefs, 40-22.

“I’m just thankful that it ended with a Super Bowl ring,” he said.

Bradberry, who will be 32 by the time the 2025 season kicks off, has still been fairly impactful in recent years.

In his first season with Philadelphia, Bradberry earned Second-team All-Pro honors.

During his All-Pro season in 2022, his 51.6 defensive pᴀsser rating was second in the league, while his rating a season later was 55th.
