Saquon Barkley gets historic contract after epic first Eagles season

Fresh off becoming a Super Bowl champion, Saquon Barkley can add another тιтle to his growing résumé: highest-paid NFL running back.

The Eagles gave their star rusher a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension Tuesday, per multiple reports, making him the league’s first $20 million-plus player at the position and keeping him in Philadelphia through the 2028 season.

“Overflow! Grateful for the Eagles Organization, grateful for my team, grateful for the amazing fans in Philly,” Barkley wrote in a post on Instagram. “Fly Eagles Fly.”

The record-breaking contract includes $36 million fully guaranteed — also the most ever on a running back contract — and up to $15 million in incentives and escalators, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

According to The Post’s Ryan Dunleavy, it was Eagles GM Howie Roseman who initiated extension talks, not Barkley seeking a raise — though he certainly did his part to earn the extra moolah.

In his first season in Philly, after leaving the Giants for a three-year, $37.75 million deal in free agency, the 28-year-old ran for an NFL-best 2,005 yards with 13 touchdowns, adding another 278 receiving yards and two scores to his totals.

He lead the NFL with 125.3 rushing yards per game in the regular season.

The Penn State product turned it up a notch in the postseason, posting 499 yards on the ground over four games with five TDs en route to the first Super Bowl of his career.

Barkley was the No. 2 pick in the 2018 draft, by the Giants, and often showed flashes of superstardom in New York, though his six seasons with the team were rife with injuries.

Giants GM Joe Schoen made the decision to award a four-year, $160 million deal to QB Daniel Jones and franchise tag Barkley for $10.1 million in 2023 — paving the way for him to leave town to get the payday the Eagles were ready to give him a year later.

The Giants will enter the 2025 season without either player on their roster, while Barkley, a handsomely paid man, plays 100 miles down I-95 South.
