Dan Orlovsky makes sudden return to ESPN after hinting at an uncertain future with the network

After previously suggesting that his time with ‘The Worldwide Leader in Sports’ could be coming to an end soon, one prominent ESPN star was back on television on Monday morning.

On the day after Super Bowl LIX, ESPN NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky suggested that his future with the company was undetermined.

But after three weeks off the air, Orlovsky made a return to the network on their morning show ‘Get up.’

Orlovsky also addressed rumors that he’d be going away on social media once fans began wondering if he’d made a decision on his future.

One asked if his ‘retirement’ from ESPN was ‘already over’. The 41-year-old career backup quarterback replied, ‘Was never retiring. Just taking my time away.’

Addressing another tweet which asked if he was making a full-time return to the network, Orlovsky said, ‘No just a day or 2 up till draft.’

After a 12-year career in the NFL with teams like the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Orlovsky pivoted to media for his post-retirement gig.

The former UConn quarterback inked a three-year contract with ESPN back in 2022, with that deal reportedly set to lapse this summer.

Back on a February 10 episode of ESPN’s ‘First Take’, Orlovsky attracted attention for saying that he would be ‘taking a break, won’t be on TV for a long time.’

He then offered thanks to fellow on-air talents Stephen A. Smith, Molly Qerim, and Shannon Sharpe saying ‘Never know what the future holds.’

At the time, Orlovsky responded to a fan on X who believed he gave a ‘leaving the network speech’. Orlovsky replied, ‘Lotta decision [sic] to be made. See what happens. I’m grateful for it all.’

Some of that time off included a family trip to Hawaii. ‘What an incredible place,’ the Connecticut native said of the islands. ‘The people, the culture, the way of life, the appreciation of family-The Food. The peace you can be at while there.

‘Forces you to stop and be present in all ways.. Kauai is now my favorite place in the world. Such great reflection and spirit. Lot of good thoughts and I’m grateful for that time with my family.’

Orlovsky, who has been at the company since 2018, once considered joining Fox Sports prior to extending his ESPN contract. He has also previously expressed interest in joining an NFL coaching staff.
