The Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns are both weighing up a shock free agency move for Daniel Jones… and he could even be a starter in the NFL in 2025.
Jones was cut by the New York Giants in November after six years on the team, just days after being dropped in favor of Tommy DeVito.
He later signed for the Minnesota Vikings but is attracting some free agency buzz – and ESPN report that he could be set for a high-profile move in the coming weeks.
Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano write that both the Colts and Browns have shown interest in the former top-10 draft pick as he eyes his next landing spot in the NFL.
Intriguingly, while many expected Jones to slot in as a back-up, it is believed both Indianapolis and Cleveland are looking at a potential situation whereby Jones would be the team’s starter in 2025.
Both teams have difficult quarterback situations heading into the offseason, with the Browns once again dealing with a long-term Deshaun Watson injury.

Jones ended the season on the roster at the Minnesota Vikings after leaving New York
Putting his off-field legal issues to one side, Watson has suffered two torn Achilles injuries in the last six months and appears extremely unlikely to be healthy for the entirety of the 2025 season.
Jameis Winston, Dorian Thompson-Robinson and Bailey Zappe all had a go at QB for the Browns after Watson’s injury, but the team is very likely to dip into free agency.
Carson Wentz and Kirk Cousins are the other two names being floated, per multiple reports.

Anthony Richardson is still the main man in Indy, but the team want some options at QB
In Indianapolis, meanwhile, Anthony Richardson is still the long-term option for the Colts, but they are reportedly keen on bringing in some experienced options after a topsy-turvy start to life in the NFL.
Jones is reportedly top of their list, alongside the likes of Trey Lance, Justin Fields and Jacoby Brissett.
The Colts have not given up on Richardson, but rather they are keen to have options should they decide to make a change – and Jones would be a potential starter if he lands there ahead of the 2025 season.
