NFL prospect Will Howard savaged over 'worst combine performance of all time'

Quarterback Will Howard won the national championship with Ohio State less than two months ago, but he went viral for the wrong reasons over the weekend as he endured a difficult NFL combine performance.

Howard, expected to be a mid-round draft pick in April, took the field in Indianapolis to throw in front of scouts.

But as one video posted to X shows, Howard missed his receivers on at least six throws, despite the drill featuring no defense to pressure him.

And fans reacted brutally to the footage online after it spread.

‘Will Howard is having an all time horrible combine performance,’ one wrote.

‘Genuinely one of the worst QBs to win a natty,’ another added.

‘It’s almost as if the group of talented WRs around him made a mid-QB look good,’ a third chimed in.

And a fourth said, ‘We all saw this coming.’

Other fans pointed out the difficulty of throwing to receivers that you haven’t played with before – a sentiment shared publicly by fellow quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders.

‘I don’t understand y’all hating on [Will Howard],’ he wrote on X, tagging the former Kansas State and Ohio State player.

‘He just won a natty. It’s hard to throw to WR’s that you don’t know, everyone run routes different!’

Interestingly, the official NFL X account had a much different interpretation of Howard’s throwing performance, writing that he had a ‘strong job interview’ in Indianapolis.

Rather than posting a montage of missed throws, the NFL posted several completions from Howard to social media.

Howard, 23, had an impressive final college season at Ohio State, completing 73 percent of his pᴀsses for 4,010 yards and 35 touchdowns.

However, some detractors have pointed to the strong talent around him in Columbus as a significant reason for those numbers.

Regardless, Howard is expected to hear his name called at some point during the NFL Draft, which begins on April 24.
