Giants pivoting to Aaron Rodgers after failed Matthew Stafford chase

Aaron Rodgers may not be leaving town after all.

With Matthew Stafford having reached a deal to stay in Los Angeles and taking the Rams officially off the table as a QB opening, Rodgers is viewed as a viable Giants option, per The Post’s Paul Schwartz, who added that it may come down to being able to accept his off-field activity.

The 41-year-old was informed this offseason that he won’t be back with the Jets, leaving him to mull his future for the 2025 season.

The surefire Hall-of-Famer showed he can still contribute to an offense down the stretch of a disappointing final season with the Jets, throwing for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024.

Rodgers’ exploits away from the gridiron left Gang Green brᴀss and fans frustrated during his two years with the team.

He found himself at the center of controversy for his unfiltered takes in weekly appearances on “The Pat McAfee Show,” famously skipped a mandatory training camp while on vacation in Egypt and was floated as a vice presidential candidate by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

And that’s just for starters.

It hasn’t stopped the Giants’ interest from becoming the talk of the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

Making a move for Rodgers to bring him to the other side of MetLife Stadium would entail making a deal with their literal in-house rival or waiting for the March 10 free agency negotiating window to open.

The Giants have precious few options when it comes to who will be under center next season.

Rodgers and the Falcons’ Kirk Cousins are veterans with questionable amounts left in their tanks.

The draft may provide an answer for the future, though the top-rated QB prospects, Cam Ward and Shedder Sanders, both come with doubts.

GM Joe Schoen won’t leave any stones unturned — his job will likely depend on it — and that may include kicking the tires on Rodgers.

“I’m for taking swings at that position,” general manager Joe Schoen said Tuesday morning. “It’s the most important position and it’s hard to find ’em, so keep swinging. Keep swinging at the position until you find one.”
